The song, with the words “I’m a sunshine girl” could sit well with “I’m a Barbie girl” - a bubblegum pop piece by Aqua, the Danish eurodance group. Patil’s Buri buri follows in newcomer Rashi Mal’s voice, who has also penned the lyrics of the song. It’s, however, a forgettable composition. Towards the antaras, Gandhi lifts her voice and reaches a crescendo. It’s one of the more intelligently orchestrated melancholic songs it borders on haunting. Then comes Kehne ko, in which piano chords are put together with Jonita Gandhi’s husky whispers. The sitar exists in the background of this entire piece and in an interlude later, adds another dimension from a calm, restive drone, the song lifts itself to a piece one can play on the loop. This is one of those few times when Kaur’s voice sounds effortless on a high pitch. A sitar is strummed alongside an acoustic guitar (this works wonderfully) just before Kaur enters the song. This is followed by Harshdeep Kaur singing Sune saaye. The acoustic version of the song has Roy take the microphone, raise the musical scale, and in turn the bar. And not the Baby ko bass pasand hai Kamil we have heard in the recent times. This bit in the piece can easily be equated with the return of lyricist Irshad Kamil we once knew. Soon, Bhardwaj croons Maine bola zindagi, Aaja khelenge hum khwabo ka nigaaho se jua. It’s an experiment alright, but is a relatively muddled addition for a melody that boasts of clarity and clean notes otherwise. In this, he has combined an interlude on the instrument with an electric guitar. Roy has always enjoyed using sitar in his pieces. A tabla keeps company with the same rhythm throughout. Bharadwaj’s voice dominates this slow, meditative piece her dexterous vocals are backed by simple instrumentals. A simple but really powerful idea here is that greatness isn’t born, it’s grown. The album opens with a soft piano prelude that merges with Rekha Bharadwaj’s voice in Saat rangon se. Motivational mechanics, and the importance of practice ![]() ![]() ![]() Ideally, you’re looking to achieve a grind resembling granulated sugar. You want to pay close attention to the texture of your grind since a finer grind will yield drastically different results than a coarser grind. This is true for all types of ground coffee beans – the fresher, the better. To achieve peak flavor, grind your espresso beans only moments before brewing. A Lungo, with a 1:3 coffee-to-water ratio, is twice the size of a single espresso.Ī single shot of Espresso is 1 oz, while a Lungo can be 2 or even 3 oz depending on the exact extraction time. Since the ratios for a Lungo and espresso are different, the coffee’s resulting size also differs. So, if you prefer the taste of one over the other, rest assured that both will satisfy the need for a pick-me-up. However, the extra caffeine isn’t enough for you to really feel a difference. 2-3 ozs, the Lungo has more caffeine in one serving and espresso has a lower caffeine content. But, since the two drinks’ standard sizes are 1 oz vs. If you compare the drinks oz for oz, the pure espresso would have more caffeine. More water means more extraction and, thus, more caffeine. CaffeineĪ Lungo has slightly more caffeine than espresso since double the water needs to flow through the coffee grounds. In addition, the crema on a Lungo is much thinner and paler than an espresso’s. As a result, an espresso looks almost black in a cup with ⅓ of an inch of silky, golden crema on top.Ī Lungo is less opaque than an espresso, with a lighter brown translucence. Since you pull an espresso with half the amount of water as a Lungo, it’s more concentrated and, therefore, much darker in color. With an espresso shot being 1 oz, a Lungo easily doubles that amount of liquid. AppearanceĪ Lungo is noticeably larger from the get-go. Because of this difference, a Lungo is incredibly delicious when you use a lighter roast of espresso that is already bright, mild, and vibrant. Where an espresso tastes strong, bold, and acidic, a Lungo tastes smooth, light, and fruity. However, the extra extraction time develops the coffee’s naturally fruity and sweet qualities. Since a Lungo doubles up on the extraction time of a standard espresso, its coffee flavor is milder and more diluted. But, for most of us, the sensory experience of espresso and lungo is probably more important. ![]() And, yes, it can be helpful to understand those distinctions. We’ve already touched on the technical differences in the brewing process between espresso and Lungo. It also mellows the caffeine-punch you’d get from a similar volume of espresso. The resulting cup highlights the bright, fruity and floral notes of the coffee. This method dissipates a significant amount of the bitterness and acidity you might expect with a standard espresso. ![]() A Lungo doubles the usual amount of water used to brew a typical shot of espresso. The extra duration allows more pressurized hot water to pass through the ground coffee pack. It may be easiest to think of a Lungo as a “long” espresso, meaning it takes twice as long to pull the shot. You’ll find espresso is the cornerstone for every manner of coffee-drink from around the world. When pulled correctly from the machine, it forms about a ⅓ thick layer of golden crema on the top that’s to die for. It has a stronger taste than black coffee since it’s highly concentrated espresso and brewed with less water. The consistency and flavor of shots may vary based on a number of factors like the type of beans, size of the grind, pressure and temperature of the water.Īlone, a shot of espresso is bold, intense, and bitter. ![]() This process usually takes 20-30 seconds, and results in a 1 oz drink. To “pull” espresso shots, high-pressure is forced through finely ground and tightly packed coffee beans. In this article, we’ll discuss the differences between espresso and lungo and the best way to go about making your own and even ways to improve your current techniques! What is Espresso?Įspresso is a thick, concentrated form of coffee that you can serve alone or use as a building block for other crafted coffee drinks. Most coffee drinkers are familiar with Espresso from the jump, but few people realize there are variations to the traditional espresso shot like a Lungo. Would you have guessed that combining coffee and milk could be a lifelong creative pursuit? It’s actually incredible how many drinks can be made with so few ingredients. Nevertheless, if you were planning on taking a big bag of mushrooms and gazing at the stars tonight, well, then music doesn’t get much better than this. But if they were seeking to discover a new facet of their identity and tap into their nature as a truly American band, as Coyne stated was the aim here, then ‘American Head’ is a pretty abject failure on its own terms. The Flaming Lips have been refining their singular vein of psychedelia for almost four decades now, and they’re been damn good at it. None of this does makes ‘American Head’ a bad record. The album even ends on another atheistic love ballad ‘My Religion Is You’, retreading the same ground that the band conquered definitively 17 years ago on ‘Do You Realize?’. More often than not, however, he reverts to his usual themes: spaceships, magic forests and the undimmed majesty of the milky way. Wayne Coyne’s lyrics occasionally aim to capture some of the small-town desperation of a Bruce Springsteen or John Mellencamp, referencing go-nowhere greasers and bikers with names like Johnny and Tommy. Even the occasional usage of ‘808s & Heartbreak’-style vocoders and the presence of country singer Kacey Musgraves can’t make the Flaming Lips sound even vaguely American. ![]() ‘American Head’ shares more DNA with Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd, Greg Lake-era King Crimson, Phil Shulman-era Gentle Giant and even pre-Ziggy Stardust David Bowie than it does with The Heartbreakers, The Eagles or the E Street Band. Sonically, however, this record remains far more indebted to the English prog-folk masters of the late 60s and early 70s than it does to any classic Americana from the same era. Elsewhere a squelchy surf-rock solo cuts through the otherwise self-parodic ‘Dinosaurs On The Mountain’ (sample lyric – “I wish the dinosaurs were still here now, It’d be fun to see them playing on the mountains”), while the light-hearted ‘You n Me Sellin’ Weed’ takes a brief detour into Johnny Cash-esque outlaw country before descending into a chorus of mooing cows because, hey, The Flaming Lips. ![]() Sure, the piano-led, yacht rock plod of ‘Will You Return/When You Come Down’ and ‘Flowers Of Neptune 6’ pretty neatly mixes the sound of Elton John at his most strung-out into the Lips’ signature psychedelic soup. It also means that, despite bandleader Wayne Coyne’s claims that this is something of a concept album inspired by Tom Petty’s sojourn in Tulsa with his old band Mudclutch and written from the perspective of a made-up 70s heartland rock group (who, wouldn’t you know it, also took a lot of made-up drugs) this album for the most of its runtime remains parked back in the Flaming Lips’ wheelhouse. Given that all fifteen albums proceeding it were also, to one degree or another, about taking loads of drugs and gazing at the stars in wonder, one can deduce that this has more to do with the essential nature of the Flaming Lips than it does with the essential nature of America. On their sixteenth record ‘American Head’ (perhaps the most accurately titled album since Lewis Capaldi unleashed ‘Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent’ on the world), The Flaming Lips make it quite clear that they’ve found the essence of America in taking loads of drugs and gazing at the stars in wonder. On The Doors’ ‘An American Prayer’ Jim Morrison finds the heart of America in the sweaty desperation of sex, on ‘American Teen’ Khalid finds the heart of America in the confused innocence of youth, on ‘American Life’ Madonna finds the heart of America in, well, Madonna. Inevitably these projects reveal far more about the inner life and thoughts of their creators than they ever do about the spirit of the nation itself. ![]() ![]() ![]() The "Pro" version of the software costs around $122, and the more advanced Giga version of the software runs at around $246.
